Hi, I’m Viccy Wanliss, and this is the story of Viccy Wanliss Art. It’s difficult to say where this story begins, but I began my life in the beautiful Tulbagh valley, daughter to a potter and an English teacher.
I could say this story begins in my early twenties, when I became a serial entrepreneur (which I still clearly am). Or just before then, when I lived in Pringle Bay and started painting indigenous plants and studying their medicinal qualities in the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens library. Or before then, when my family would go on hikes in the Winterhoek mountains, bringing back the overpowering scent of Buchu rubbed into socks and clothes.
Or perhaps it started in 2018 when I found I could not use commercial soap any more (and became severely disillusioned with false promises on packaging). Or in 2022, when I finally made my own first soap.
I think it’s fair to say that every step of my journey has helped bring together the elements of what makes this business work and unique in identity. The desire to be self sufficient, uncompromising in quality and above all honest and accountable drive me. As does the desire to create something beautiful, of real (good) value and close to nature.
